Picking up where yesterday’s post of free music left off, today it’s all about saving dollars during Canadian Music Week.
Want to get the CMW experience without shelling-out $30 for a wristband? Then it’s Soundscapes and Criminal Records to the rescue! These two venerable Toronto record stores are host to a ridiculous amount of in-store performances this week, giving you a great opportunity see some of the excellent bands in town for CMW without spending a dime. Of course, this also gives fellow wristband-ers a chance to catch many of the in-demand CMW bands twice. Check out the schedule below:
Wednesday, March 5:
Bon Iver - 4:00pm, Soundscapes
Thurs., March 6:
Immaculate Machine - 5pm, Soundscapes
Jenny Omnichord - 6:00pm, Criminal Records
The Burning Hell - 6:30pm, Criminal Records
Friday, March 7:
Wintergloves - 5:00pm, Criminal Records
Plants & Animals - 6:00pm, Criminal Records
Saturday, March 8:
Laura Barrett - 4:00pm, Soundscapes
Calm Down It’s Monday - 5:00pm, Criminal Records
Julie Doiron - 5:30pm, Criminal Records
The Superfantastics - 6:00pm, Criminal Records
Dog Day - 6:40pm, Criminal Records
Sunday, March 9:
Forest City Lovers - 4pm, Soundscapes
Woo! Poor people of the world rejoice at all those fantastic free concerts. This just goes to show that you don’t need to be a high roller in order to appreciate what CMW has to offer, so get out there and take advantage—I know I will be.

Here’s a track from For Emma, Forever Ago, the fantastic new album from Bon Iver:
You better believe I’d be at at Lee’s Palace on Mar. 5 for Bon Iver’s show with Black Mountain if it weren’t sold out. Those of you who have tickets feel free to rub it in my face afterwards.
