Alright, 19 sets later and my very first CMW has come to a close. Over the next few days I’ll do my best to post descriptions and photos from most of the shows I took-in last week, suffice to say that it’s taking me a while to sort through my camera’s memory card for the best shots.
That said, Thursday was easily my busiest day (and arguably the best day for the festival) and it got started at Criminal Records with in-store performances by both Jenny Omnichord and The Burning Hell. I was subsequently also able to catch both acts at Friday’s Weewerk Showcase at the Silver Dollar, so I’ll save my gushing for that live review (though you can check out Chromewaves right now for a brief and flattering description of The Burning Hell’s set that evening). For now I’ll leave you with a video of the Criminal Records sets as captured by Zunior (technical difficulties with the recording set in during the last song, but I guess you can’t complain over an hour of free footage…).
Highlights include Jenny Omnichord’s endearing banter as well as a ridiculously charming duet with Burning Hell front-man, Mathias Kom, of a children’s song explaining the death of household pets.
Needless to say, it was a hefty undertaking to try and see as many bands as I could during CMW. Add to that the late night chicanery that comes from concert-hopping with friends (not to mention trying to catch a cab at 4am in the snow covered streets) and it’s obvious that I need a few days to recuperate. I’ll get into some of the other shows when I wake up.
