WHK’s First Birthday: A Year of Bloggerly Service

Well, would you look at that: I blink for a minute and suddenly it’s been over a year since this blog was started. I knew it was some point in July of 2007 that I began throwing my penny-sized opinion into the ocean of the internet—July 13, 2007, to be exact—but I still find it a bit hard to believe that I’ve made it past a year of semi-consistent posting (though even semi-consistent is probably too generous a term in hindsight).
Of course, it hasn’t always been rife with the glitz and glamour that usually accompanies unpaid, barely-read blogs about relatively unknown Canadian indie bands. Though, looking back over the year, WHK has undoubtedly allowed me to get acquainted with some great acts that I’d never have gotten wind of otherwise. In fact, The Rest, The Human Soundtrack, Construction and Destruction, The Coast and Sleepless Nights are just a smattering of the excellent bands with whom this ol’ wordfarm has allowed me to cross paths.
Who’d have thought unsolicited emails and Myspace messages could be so damn fun!
In honour of the anniversary, and for my own curiosity’s sake, here are the top 5 most viewed posts on WHK since its inception:
1. Best Canadian Albums of 2007
2. Song #13: Winterlseep Weighty Ghost
3. This Just in: Track Listing for New Constantines Album, Kensington Heights
4. Under the Radar: My Top Unsung Albums of 2007
5. Live in Toronto: Bon Iver at Soundscapes

Thanks to anyone who has stopped by on occasion to read, comment or generally acknowledge my existence—here’s hoping I can keep this up for another year!

Congrats Paul. You are my first stop in the morning…. Is that because you are first on our blog roll or first in our heart???? You decide!
Hopefully we can hook up if you come down for HPX

Thanks for your tireless efforts in covering all the worthy Canadian acts that I just don’t get around to covering on my own. Keep up the good work.
