A Change Is Gonna Come: Temporary Hiatus

“All writers are vain, selfish, and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives there lies a mystery.” — George Orwell in his 1947 essay, Why I Write
After much deliberation I’ve decided to take a break from Wolves, Hawks and Kites for a while. It’s time to recharge the batteries and re-examine why this site exists in the first place.
At its inception, WHK had a pretty simple—and cathartic—reason for being: my day job gives me constant access to all sorts of albums (including advance copies of anticipated releases), so I thought I might as well voice my opinions on them somewhere before I exploded. I suppose I’m in the rare position of enjoying what I currently do for a living and, working from home, I built my own water cooler to talk shop with whomever was listening.
However, lately I’ve started to realize that posting in my spare-time has resulted in more hours spent writing about other people’s creative efforts and less time taking part in my own. Besides, guys like Herohill and i (heart) music do a more consistent job covering new music than I do anyway (and I salute them).
I’ll be back sporadically here and there, but am really hoping to change things up (doing away with the “Album Reviews” category is my first order of business).
Thanks for reading and hope to see you soon.

Sad to hear this. So few Canadian focused blogs and your love of music made WHK a constant stopping place for me.
Still waiting for you to send me some demos though

Aww, that sucks. I hope you come back soon! At least enough to take part in this year’s hottest bands poll…

Sad. Good luck with everything… and I’ll second the ack in saying I’d be interested in hearing some tunes…

Keep ‘em coming Paul. You’ve got a good thing going here. It’s like, you’re listening to what you wanna listen to, so it’s a good place to read about bands that might not be getting noticed in other blogs.

While Herohill is solid but all over the genre map and i (heart) music tends towards being a public service announcement, you are a consistent source of great, new Canadian indie pop. Don’t ever feel like you have to post all the time, but if something moves you, put it up. You’ve got a good ear.

Wolves is in my top 5 music blogs. I hope you still write regularly enough to satisfy my Canadian music addiction.
